What is the AYSO Spring Toiyabe League?
Toiyabe is for Fall Core players that want a higher level of play in the spring. Players are selected from open tryouts by the coaches, and will play against other "coach-select" teams from nearby AYSO regions. Players (and parents) must commit to travel to play other regions as far away as Bishop, South Lake Tahoe and Fernley.
- Tryouts are usually held in late January-early February.
- One team from each division (10u, 12u, 14u, etc) will represent Carson City AYSO in the "Area 2F Toiyabe League" program.
- Practices begin as early as February or March, depending on field conditions, and games last from the first weekend in April to the first weekend in June.
- Toiyabe Teams are invited to play in the Comstock Shootout Tournament in April, the Wild West Shootout Tournament in May, and the Toiyabe Championships in June.
Get your cheer on!
AYSO is committed to player development - for brand new players as well as highly experienced, skilled players. The Toiyabi League is meant to complement our core program by giving our more advanced players a higher level of competition to learn and test their skills within AYSO.
How is AYSO Spring Toiyabe League different from other competitive club programs?
All AYSO programs are built on AYSO's six philosophies: Everyone Plays, Balanced Teams, Open Registration, Positive Coaching, Good Sportsmanship, Player Development. On a club team, if your player isn't one of the core players, it is likely your player will sit out most of the game. In all AYSO affiliated programs, every player present at the time of game kickoff is required to play a minimum of one half of the game unless injured. Additionally, our coaches are handpicked to ensure your player enjoys their soccer experience through positive coaching.
How are players selected?
Players must be 9U or older to be eligible to play in the Spring Toiyabe Leauge. Players will be selected by a coach based on their performance in previous seasons and in tryouts that will be held in January to February (for the spring season). Players that are not selected in the fall will have the opportunity to play in AYSO's core spring program and could be selected for the All Stars team, Toiyabe team and a future Ai team.
How are teams selected?
Typically, players from the fall All-Star teams form a semi-competitive team in the spring that we call the Toiyabe League. The spring coach-select Toiyabe team plays other Toiyabe teams throughout the area. Sometimes those teams do well and want to stay together. Those teams are then invited to play on AYSO Interplay (Ai). Additionally, talented coaches and players that live AYSO's six philosophies may be identified and invited by the board and Ai program to form an Ai team at other times.
Who will be coaching my child?
Coaches must receive additional training through AYSO's coach training programs to coach a Toiyabe team. The Carson City Region 140 Board can afford more information on our (FREE!) coach training options. AYSO's competitive coaches are the best coaches in the region, trained and certified through AYSO's proven programs, with a history of technical proficiency and positive encouragement.
What are the commitments?
A. Players and Parents
Players are expected to attend all practices and games and hold themselves to the highest standards of sportsmanship at all times. They will represent the best of AYSO and youth sports. The AYSO competitive programs are just that - competitive, and they can be challenging. Carson City AYSO strives to field the best athletes and players for the competitive programs, which includes being the "best" at sportsmanship as well as soccer.
Parents are expected to volunteer at least two hours - one hour at the Comstock Tournament in April and one hour at either the Kit Carson All Stars tournament or Cookie's Best Area 2F Championship tournament in November. Other volunteer opportunities (and necessities) will present themselves throughout the season, and we hope parents stay engaged!
B. Coaches
Coaching directives from the sideline should be positive and encouraging. AYSO coaches are responsible for ensuring that their players, parents and fans behave in a respectful manner. AYSO coaches should be mentors in the Participating Region.
All head coaches and assistant coaches must be properly registered for the current AYSO membership year through their Participating Region, AYSO Safe Haven Certified, Concussion Awareness Certified and certified at or above the division of their team.
When are tryouts and how do I register?
Tryouts for the Spring 2022 Toiyabe League will be held at Talents Athletic Center (The "TAC") in Carson City on February 12 and 20th at (TBD) pm. For more information, please see the Competitive Program Flyer here. Once selected for a team, you will be asked to sign up for the wait list for the program at AYSOCarsonCity.org. When we activate your player, you will receive an email requesting that you complete the registration and payment process. Your player will not be allowed to participate in practices until you have paid on line.
How much does Toiyabe cost?
Registration fees for the Toiyabe League is $(100) per player per season plus the annual $20 national fee.
Please note that, unlike many of the other clubs which must request additional funds from parents for tournaments, Carson City AYSO Region 140 will pay the entry fee for three tournaments each season at no additional cost.
Scholarships are available for our players in need. Please see our Fees and Refunds page for more details.
