COVID-19 Update

2021 Spring Soccer
Sports COVID-19 Preparedness & Safety Plan

On October 2, Governor Sisolak issued a directive and accompanying guidance clarifying rules for youth sports during the pandemic.  This webpage is our Sports COVID-19 Preparedness & Safety Plan as required by the guidance.

As everyone is well aware by now, the current COVID pandemic has created challenges for all youth sports.  Despite these challenges, we think it is so important to get our kids out of the house to have a little exercise and some social interaction.  That said, we are cognizant of the safety risks that COVID represents.  Therefore, we have created a spring season designed to limit exposure for your children with clinics/sessions designed improve players’ skills within smaller groups.

Board Responsibilities.  The Board will be responsible for ensuring 1) the maximum number of spectators and participants admitted to the premises does not exceed 250 people through scheduling a participant counts, 2) all spectators and participants maintain proper social distancing, and 3) face covering rules are enforced along with the rules and requirements set forth in this Sports Safety Plan.  The Board will create a schedule to ensure at least one board member is present at each session.  We ask that coaches and volunteers assist the Board in enforcing these rules.

Face Coverings.  All individuals, including players, will be required to wear face coverings while at Pete Livermore Sports Complex, except for players that are actively playing.  Players should wear face coverings when not exerting themselves.

COVID-19 Testing.  All coaches and other volunteers are required to take a COVID-19 test prior to the start of the season.  It is recommended, but not required, that coaches and volunteers take a COVID-19 test every other week during the season.  It is recommended, but not required, that players take a COVID-19 test prior to the start of the season.

Screening at Single Point of Entry.  There will be one point of entry, in the middle of the south fields (near the flag box), at which an AYSO official will take contactless temperature readings of each person entering the field.  Signs will be posted to clearly mark entrances and exits.  We will also ask those that enter the field whether they are exhibiting any COVID symptoms pursuant to the Nevada Health Response COVID-19 Screening for Sports

Fields.  This spring, AYSO will only use the fields on the south side (fields 7-10).  The south side soccer fields at Pete Livermore Sports Complex is an outdoor set of fields with no defined seating.  A map of the fields is available here

If You are Sick. We ask that anyone not feeling well, with a fever, or exhibiting any respiratory symptoms please do not come to Pete Livermore Sports Complex.  If your player or a family member has been diagnosed with COVID, regardless of whether you are exhibiting symptoms, we ask that you not come to Pete Livermore Sports Complex, cooperate with Carson City health officials and tell us so that we can take appropriate action.  If we become aware that a player, coach or other volunteer is diagnosed with COVID, all activities for that team will cease for 14 days.  If a family member of a player, coach or volunteer is diagnosed with COVID, that player, coach or volunteer should not return to Pete Livermore Sports Complex for 14 days.  We will work with Carson City health officials to help with contact tracing and determine an appropriate pause in play for affected players.  We will notify the parents of each player that may have been exposed to COVID and provide return to play criteria at that time.  It is recommended that anyone who previously tested positive for COVID receive medical clearance before returning to play.

Scheduling.  All instructional periods will be scheduled with 30 minutes in between sessions to limit contact with other groups before, during and after practice without crowding.  Coaches, players, volunteers and spectators are asked to arrive no earlier than 15 minutes before their scheduled time and leave no more than 15 minutes after the end of their scheduled time.

Spectators.  We understand that you want to cheer on your player.  However, to reduce the number of people on the field, parents are highly encouraged to drop-off their kids or to remain in their cars during sessions if they would like to remain onsite.  If you would like to cheer from the sideline, please remain six feet back from the sideline of the field and keep your family six feet from any other family on the sideline.  Spectators will remain on one side of the field while players and coaches are on the other side of the field.  We highly encourage only immediately family members of the player attend the sessions.

Smaller Groups.  AYSO recreational soccer for all ages will occur on the south side of Pete Livermore Sports Complex.  We intend to use one 12U size field, one 10U size field and several 8U size fields.  Players will be broken up into small teams no larger than the standard AYSO teams, depending on the number of participants, and assigned to a field.  All fields will be at least 10 yards from any other field or training space.

Distancing During Play.  Coaches should attempt to keep kids at least six feet apart during warm-ups, drills and during breaks in play.  Discourage unnecessary physical contact such as high fives, hand shakes, fist bumps and hugs.  Player's personal equipment should be spaced at least six feet apart.

Equipment. Encourage players to use only their own equipment.  Hand sanitizer that contains at least 60% alcohol, will be available for coaches to apply for each child prior to starting play and disinfecting wipes to clean balls.  Clean all equipment that directly contacts the head, face and hand with extra attention and detail.  Players should not pick-up or touch other players' equipment when not necessary for play.  Players should not touch the goals.  Coaches are required to clean and disinfect their equipment between sessions.  Families are encouraged to clean and disinfect equipment after each use.  Uniforms should be cleaned between each use.  Equipment and water/fluid bottles should not be shared.  All players must wear shin guards under the socks and closed toed sneakers or soccer cleats.  No spitting is allowed.  Coaches are responsible for ensuring their players clean up all of their equipment and trash after each session.

Facilities.  Due to reductions in staff within the Carson City Parks and Rec department, the City is unable to provide normal services.  Therefore, restrooms will be closed.  We recommend your players go to the restroom before they leave home.  However, a sanihut will be available near the entrance to the fields.

Signage.  Appropriate signage for entrances and exits as well as reminders to maintain social distancing, wear masks and wash hands will be posted.  Signage will also include capacity limits and indicate those who are experience COVID systems are prohibited from entering the field.

If conditions improve, we may be able to create a more normal soccer experience with larger teams and games against other teams.  We ask for your patience and flexibility as we try to create the best experience possible as conditions evolve.

We feel that by following the plan above, we can create a safe playing environment for your kids and for ours.  Only by working as a team - with the board, the coaches, the referees, the players and the parents - can we do so.  We want to get our kids out of the house for their sanity and yours!  Please join us in bringing great soccer to Carson City’s kids!
