AYSO Carson City Region 140

Message to Parents, July 25, 2022

Hello Soccer Families!

As our Fall 2022 Soccer season gets closer, we are putting together some final touches for a great fall season!  Here is some important information for parents to know as we get closer to Opening Day:

Teams - As our volunteers create the region’s teams for the fall, you may see that your child’s roster is adjusted.  Please be patient with us as we address issues that arise while we make rosters!  The kids are randomly assigned to teams, and some teams are still in need of coaches.  If you’ve been informed your child’s team does not have a coaching volunteer, please consider being that volunteer!  Each team is coached and refereed by a parent / family volunteer coach.  AYSO offers training and help for new coaches!  Please contact us for more information.

Practices - Practices are organized by the team’s volunteer coach and may begin August 1.  AYSO practices have priority use over other uses at the Carson Middle School field and Bordewich Bray fields.  Practices may not be held at the Pete Livermore Sports Complex.  Your teams’ coach will reach out to you to discuss practice times and locations!

Opening Day and Games - Opening Day is scheduled to begin at 9:00 am on August 20, 2022 at the Pete Livermore Sports Complex.  Games will follow a brief Opening Day Celebration.  The schedule will be available online soon, and will be given to coaches (and then to families) as soon as it is complete. Questions about the rules for your child’s division?  Check out the Coaches Corner on!

Wildfires and Smoke - Our fall seasons are often interrupted by air quality issues arising from smoke and wildfires in the area.  AYSO games will be canceled if the AQI readings in the area exceed 150 in South Carson City, near the Pete Livermore Sports Complex.  Updates will be kept on, so check if it is looking smokey!

Equipment Pickup -  Equipment is arriving tomorrow!  Team volunteers will be able to pick up the team’s equipment at the Fall 2022 Parent Meeting (see below) or Saturday, July 30, 2022 at the Pete Livermore Sports Complex between 10am and 12pm.

Parent Code of Conduct - AYSO takes its Parent Code of Conduct very seriously.  Our region appreciates every minute of time dedicated by its players and volunteers, and will not tolerate harassment or pestering of its players or volunteers.  Any violation of the policy toward our players or volunteers will receive a warning, followed by an immediate one-year suspension from the Region and any Region event.  This includes during games and practices, toward players, coaches, referees, or other spectators.

Fall 2022 Parent’s Meeting - We are holding our Fall 2022 Parent Meetings at the Carson City Library at 6pm, 6:45pm, and 7:15pm.  We will discuss our upcoming season, the program structures, and field questions from parents about the Region.  Coaches can also pick up equipment at any of the meeting times!

We are looking forward to a great Fall season!

Dear Parents-

With our Fall 2022 season quickly approaching, I wanted to express how excited we are to continue to build AYSO in Carson City to allow our kids to get out and play soccer and enrich their lives in ways only youth sports can.  Our volunteers work hard each season to make the games happen.  AYSO is an all-volunteer organization, and we can only operate because of the help of our volunteers.  Please be courteous to all of our volunteers and remember that they are giving up their time to help your kids!  If you can help, please do so!  Reach out and we can find a job that suits your skills, wants, and availability.

Parents play an integral role in successful AYSO seasons.  Each AYSO team requires a parent volunteer to be a coach, and a parent volunteer to referee.  Never volunteered before?  No problem!  AYSO has all the materials and training necessary.  Don’t know much about soccer?  You probably know more than the kids!  Coaching and refereeing is easy, fun, and a great opportunity to show your kid you are there for them.  All we ask is 4-5 hours per month to dedicate to your kids, and we can help with the rest.  You’re going to be at the fields anyway – you should help out!

We are seeking the following positions on our Board:

  • Treasurer - Handles the financial activity of the Region, and its paperwork, including registration fee collection/recording/depositing, preparing budgets, and paying bills. 1 year term.
  • Safety Director - Ensures safety across the region by overseeing maintenance of soccer equipment, nets, fields and facilities as well as making sure insurance and incident forms are properly submitted. 1 year term.
  • Coach Administrator - Implements the AYSO National Coaching Program at the Region level, including training, development, certification, coach support, and more. 1 year term.
  • Child and Volunteer Protection Advocate (CVPA) - Plans and implements the annual registration of all Region volunteers. They follow the guidelines of the Safe Haven™ program including gathering applications for volunteer positions, screening applicants and upholding state laws that protect children. 1 year term.
  • Board Members at Large -  Help us make decisions and get things done!

AYSO is a truly fantastic all-volunteer organization with amazing programs for kids of all ages and abilities. Our Playground/Schoolyard program is the only soccer based program for 3 and 4 year olds and has been recognized as one of the best programs in the area for the age group.  Our core program brings age-appropriate soccer with increasing complexity to 5 to 18 year-olds who participated 52 teams this past Spring. Our new Ai program brings high-quality competitive soccer to AYSO and boasts the #3 ranked 11U team in Nevada! See our Programs webpage for more details. These programs don't work without its amazing volunteers and supportive parents like you! We feel we have laid the foundation for program growth and are excited to see it grow!

Come be a part of something amazing for our community and for our kids!  We are looking forward to getting out and playing soccer again this August!
