AYSO Carson City Region 140

March 28, 2023

Hello AYSO Parents!

Our Carson City AYSO Region 140 volunteers have been working very hard to prepare for our Spring 2023 season.  Unfortunately, the historically uncooperative weather is going to postpone our season a few weeks while we wait for fields to thaw and dry and become playable.

Carson City is an excellent partner in supporting AYSO through free use of its fields, complexes, and parks, but also must ensure the fields are ready for play before allowing any teams to play.  The fields have not yet been cleared for play for the Spring.  Hopefully we will have more sunny days to help dry the fields, and we will be playing in a couple short weeks!

Our season was set to begin with practices beginning April, Opening Day on April 15, and the final games to be played on June 3.  Because of the weather, we are moving Opening Day to May 1, and the final day of games to June 10.  Practices can commence as soon as the City gives us permission to use the fields.  Our Region will contact coaches and volunteers as soon as we have that permission.  We did not make the decision lightly, and appreciate all our parents’ flexibility and understanding in needing to move the dates.  Coaches will have more information as it becomes available to us.

If you are a coach, referee, or other volunteer, you will be receiving a second email with information regarding your team rosters, equipment pickup, field conditions, etc.  We would like to thank all of our volunteers for their hard work and flexibility in putting on the season for our kids – without our volunteers, AYSO would not exist!

Thank you again for your understanding, and feel free to email us with any questions or concerns.

Message to Parents, January 20, 2023

Hello Soccer Families!

As our Spring 2023 Soccer season gets closer, we are putting together some final touches for a great Spring season!  Here is some important information for parents to know as we get closer to Opening Day:

Teams - As our volunteers create the region’s teams for the Spring, you may see that your child’s roster is adjusted.  Please be patient with us as we address issues that arise while we make rosters!  The kids are randomly assigned to teams, and some teams are still in need of coaches.  If you’ve been informed your child’s team does not have a coaching volunteer, please consider being that volunteer!  Each team is coached and refereed by a parent / family volunteer coach.  AYSO offers training and help for new coaches!  Please contact us for more information.

Practices - Practices are organized by the team’s volunteer coach and may begin April 1.  AYSO practices have priority use over other uses at the Carson Middle School field and Bordewich Bray fields.  Practices may not be held at the Pete Livermore Sports Complex or Mills Park.  Your teams’ coach will reach out to you to discuss practice times and locations!

Opening Day and Games - Opening Day Games will begin around 9:00 am on April 15, 2023 at the Pete Livermore Sports Complex.  Our Region will have information, raffles, maps, and other goodies available on Opening Day.  The schedule will be available online soon, and will be given to coaches (and then to families) as soon as it is complete. Questions about the rules for your child’s division?  Check out the Coaches Corner on AYSOCarsonCity.org!

Snow and Rain - While we try to play throughout any weather, snow and rain can become too much for the kids and dampen the fun.  On a case-by-case basis, if cancellations are required due to field conditions or play conditions, our Region will email parents to cancel all games for the day (even if weather lightens up later).  Please make sure you have your kids bundled up and warm on those cold mornings!

Wildfires and Smoke -
Our fall seasons are often interrupted by air quality issues arising from smoke and wildfires in the area.  AYSO games will be canceled if the AQI readings in the area exceed 150 in South Carson City, near the Pete Livermore Sports Complex.  Updates will be kept on AYSOCarsonCity.org, so check if it is looking smokey!

Equipment Pickup -  Equipment is arriving soon!  Team volunteers will be able to pick up the team’s equipment at the March 18, 2023 Coaches Training Sessions, or at one of our regional events.  Coaches will pick up all equipment for their teams, and distribute to the kids.  Please look out for more info on equipment pick-up.  (see below) or Saturday, July 30, 2022 at the Pete Livermore Sports Complex between 10am and 12pm.

Parent Code of Conduct - AYSO takes its Parent Code of Conduct very seriously.  Our region appreciates every minute of time dedicated by its players and volunteers, and will not tolerate harassment or pestering of its players or volunteers.  Any violation of the policy toward our players or volunteers will receive a warning, followed by an immediate one-year suspension from the Region and any Region event.  This includes during games and practices, toward players, coaches, referees, or other spectators.

Spring 2023 Parent’s Meeting - We are holding our Spring 2023 Parent Meetings at the Carson City Library on March 8 at 6pm, 6:45pm, and 7:15pm.  We will discuss our upcoming season, the program structures, and field questions from parents about the Region.  Coaches can also pick up equipment at any of the meeting times!

We are looking forward to a great Spring season!

Wildfires and Air Quality

Carson City experiences near-annual wildfire and air quality issues which can affect our spring season.  The AYSOCarsonCity.org website will have daily information on whether games are canceled / rescheduled due to air quality.
